”The Clearing”

The morning rain had stopped and a walk through the woods seemed like a good idea.

”Phlox”

When you can’t pack your gear and head out for the Scottish Highlands, there’s a whole world waiting just a dozen steps from your kitchen door.

”Winter Ferns”

Even in early winter these ferns refuse to give up their summer green.

”Tree Line and Corn”

The sun had only been up a few minutes and the morning fog had only just begun to thin.

”Sunset”

A late afternoon thunderstorm had just blown through leaving everything soaked. Just as the clouds moved on the setting sun lit up the woods. Not your typical sunset.

Roots”

There’s nothing to really say about this. Strength, Power, Gnarly, Mystery.

”Big Tree”

This tree stands at the border of the woods and a soybean field. Has witnessed a lifetime of crop rotation. Pretty neat tree.

”A Spot in the Woods”

This spot burned less than nine months before this photograph was taken. It’s a beautiful thing to see.

”Feather Lost”

Some things are simply meant to be. While standing in the woods looking up at a young owl what would turn out to be one of my proudest moments lay right between my feet.

”Cone Flower”

These two cone flowers are just about done.

”Pine Alley”

Humans can’t help but plant and build in parallel, in symmetry, in balance. Nature refuses to fight back. Mother simply takes what is given and makes it beautiful.
